Have an Art Vacation at Home

How about an art vacation at home? Let’s explore how that might be just the thing to relieve some stress and brighten our outlook. Our heart and soul expand as we move through the stages of life.  We are a kid at home, in school, away at college, entering work life, negotiating married life, learning the parent life of a little, readjusting to parent life of an adult, realizing empty nest life.  The many stages and chapters of our lives give in to the stress of the day to day, the stress of the changes, the stress of the constantly changing events in our lives.

Relaxation Strategies

The one constant can be the way we relax, unwind, refresh and recharge.  Little mini vacations that take us away even if we don’t leave our house.  For everyone it is different.  For some, it could be as simple as a hot bath with bubbles and salts, turning pages in a book, a glass of wine, talking on the phone with a friend, taking a walk.   For many, it is the feel of a brush dipping into paint and dragging across a canvas, the spin and twirl of a crochet hook and yarn, the rhythm of a sewing machine, the hum of a pottery wheel.  We feel so alive and in tune with ourselves as we work through the steps of our creation.  It is what makes our SOUL sing.  Need some ideas?  Check out our website Create Thou Art for some “vacation” suggestions.

When is “Some Day”?

We enjoy these things without a second thought as we grow and learn.  With the different changes in our lives, these activities that bring us such joy often get pushed to the side.  We tell ourselves we don’t have the time, or the money for supplies, or the space to keep it all.  We feel guilty if we take the time for ourselves in any way.  But we feel the loss.  Something is off inside of our very beings.  Maybe we satisfy the creative urge through our kids.   We find ourselves coming up with many projects of paper and glue, the messy outside play is eagerly anticipated by all, Halloween is eagerly anticipated as the most elaborate costumes are created.  A constant thought is that “one day” there will be time for me to get back into my own creativity.    You smile but it doesn’t quite reach your eyes.

Please let us recommend that you are more alive when you take time to keep these creations going.  If it is a one hour class once a month while the kids are in school, a project you can bring in and work on over a cup of coffee, you will feel much more balanced to handle those stressors as they come along. It is your little mini vacation.  Even if it is just the fun of looking at a craft magazine, your heart and soul are fed.

Take the Mini Vacation

For those who didn’t take the mini vacations along the way, the kids grow up and leave home.  The emptiness is now more evident.  Time has opened up so we can return to the idea of brush on canvas, a hook and yarn, pottery and wheel.   Maybe now we can try that art or craft we have always wanted to learn.  Friends we have not yet met who love to do the same things are in the same boat and looking forward to finding their “tribe.”  Even if it is a solitary creative activity, the uplift in your spirit and soul will be evident to those around you.   They will see the smile all the way up into your eyes.

Let us help you retune the song in your soul.  You may not even know what it is yet but are eager to try and find it.

An Art Vacation at Home. It may be the best vacation you have ever taken.
