Welcome to Kid’s Art Adventure.

Here are some fun art adventure ideas for kids.  Most are inexpensive or free!  All are a great time and really let the kid’s use their imaginations!

1. Set up an outdoor painting station and let your child paint the scenery.  Give a paint brush and a bucket of water.  They will have a great time “painting” and may clean up the sidewalk as they do.

2. Create a “paint your own pottery” day at home.  Here are some kits Pottery Kits or find some plain clay pots at a thrift store and they can paint designs with dollar store paint or even cheap nail polish. Nail polish is great because it is shiny, comes in a ton of colors including glitter, dries quickly and each bottle has it’s own brush

3. Make paper mache sculptures and paint them.  Paper mache is simply strips of paper like newspaper or magazines coated with a water/flour mixture.  Some recipes use corn starch or watered down glue instead of flour.  Use what you have on hand or find the most economical.  There are a lot of ‘how to’s out there.  It is a great time and keeps the kids occupied over several days.  You  make the object, let it dry then paint it.  A great way to recycle those sale ads or newspapers that seem to pile up.

4. Create a collage using old magazines and newspapers. Have the kids look through the grocery or sale ads, cut out the pictures that they like and glue them to a blank piece of paper or cardboard.  The plain inside of a cereal box is a great resource.  They can then tell a story, have their dream dinner menu, or cut shapes from the paper and make a picture.

5. Have a drawing contest with family and friends.  Who can draw the best rhinoceros?

6. Make homemade playdough and sculpt with it.  Some playdough recipes call for items usually found in the pantry and can even be edible.

7. Draw with sidewalk chalk on your driveway or sidewalk. Hopscotch never goes out of style.  Or create a “lava” course and have to stay out of the lava. Have the child lay down on the sidewalk     and someone draws their shape on the walk.  They then get up and embellish their shape with clothes, etc.

8.Have a family portrait day and let your child draw or paint each family member.  This is a fun activity and they enjoy showing off their portraits.
